The Harry Potter series is already missing a star. Months before the series premiere, child actor Gracie Cochrane, who was playing Ginny Weasley, shockingly left the role.
Gracie's family has shared the statement on her exit from the show and the character that would have been a breakthrough moment of her life. Without revealing the reason behind her exit, her family said the child star would be grateful for such an unforgettable experience.
Cochrane and her family said in a joint statement. “Her time as part of the ‘Harry Potter’ world has been truly wonderful, and she is deeply grateful to Lucy Bevan and the entire production team for creating such an unforgettable experience. Gracie is very excited about the opportunities her future holds.”
Gracie has played the role in season 1, which has been shot and is set to be released on HBO in December. She will not return for season 2.
HBO reacts to Gracie Cochrane's exit
Gracie has walked out of the show on good terms. In a statement released, a rep for HBO said: “We support Gracie Cochrane and her family’s decision not to return for the next season of HBO’s Harry Potter series, and we are grateful for her work on season one of the show. We wish Gracie and her family the best.”

In the released trailer, Ginny makes a brief appearance by her mother's side at King's Cross Station to wave goodbye to her older brothers, including Ron Weasley, who are going to Hogwarts. While the first season is based on Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, she doesn't have much of a role in it. But her character will be a focus in season 2, which is based on J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, when Ginny is manipulated by Tom Riddle’s diary into opening a secret chamber.

Gracie's exit comes weeks after the filming of season 2 began. The show that features an all-new cast playing the iconic characters are: Dominic McLaughlin as Harry, Arabella Stanton as Hermione, and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley, along with Albus Dumbledore (John Lithgow), Severus Snape (Paapa Essiedu), and Minerva McGonagall (Janet McTeer).
