Was Barbie on to something? Fans think it was, and it has a Kamala Harris connection

US Vice President Kamala Harris has thrown her ring in the hat to become the next president of the country. Joe Biden exited the race on July 21 and endorsed Harris to take on the mantle. Eagle-eyed netizens have noticed something peculiar about the date of the announcement. Ironically, this is when Margot Robbie starrer Barbie released a year back. The film was all about women's empowerment and self-discovery. It showed women in different position of power, including the president.

What has caught everyone's attention is that the film, which was released on July 21, 2023, exactly a year before Harris emerged as a potential future president, showed a woman as president, along with a female-led supreme court. Actress Issa Rae portrayed the role of a female, black president in Barbie.

Now a year later, the on-screen scenario seems likely to become a reality. Harris, although not Black, is in a great position to become the country's first female president. Born to an Indian mother, Kamala Harris is an Asian-American.

People took to social media to point out the on-screen and off-screen similarities and came up with some amazing one-liners.

One of the users wrote, "Warner Bros should get Issa Rae aka President Barbie to interview Kamala Harris celebrating both 1 year of Barbie and Kamala’s potential future presidency."

"Wait, I think Barbie was on to something…" another wrote, sharing a still from the film.

Another user said, "i know we didn’t just celebrate one year of Barbie for yall to say a woman can’t be president. Hi, Barbie!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

"Biden drops out on the one year anniversary of Barbie…. Remember who was president in Barbieland? Exactly," another user wrote, sharing a gif of Harris.

Notably, Harris already has several honours to her name, as she is the first female vice president of the country and the highest-ranking female official in UShistory.

Kamala Harris for president

After Biden stepped down and exited the race for the White House, he endorsed Harris for the role. She now also has the full support of the California delegation, earning enough delegates to become the Democratic party nominee. This came after Nancy Pelosi, former House speaker, made the motion to endorse Harris for president at a virtual meeting of California’s DNC delegation on Monday. The development was confirmed by a spokesperson.

Top Democrats are also rallying behind Harris in their bid to beat Donald Trump. Harris has gotten busy with campaigning and will be in Milwaukee on Tuesday for her first full-fledged campaign event.

Meanwhile, all the delegates who had chosen Biden, are now free to choose a candidate of their choice. With Biden endorsing Harris, she looks set to enter the fray against Trump for the November election. According to the Associated Press, Harris already has 2,214 delegates, much more than the simple majority needed to bag the nomination on the first ballot.

A virtual nominating process will be held between August 1 and 5 before the national convention scheduled to take place in Chicago on August 19.
