India to host 2025 Asia Cup, Bangladesh named hosts for 2027 edition
Defending champions India are set to host the 2025 T20 Asia Cup. The next edition of the continental event will take place in the shortest format in India, as a dress rehearsal for the 2026 T20 World Cup -- to be held in India and Sri Lanka. Thus, India will host the Asia Cup after a gap of 34 years. Meanwhile, the 2027 edition will take place in Bangladesh and will be played in the ODI format ahead of that year's World Cup. The Asian Cricket Council confirmed the development in a recent statement.
"Men's Asia Cup Tournament' means the biennial senior men's cricket tournament organised and administered by the ACC involving designated Members, and shall include participation by the teams from Afghanistan, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and one Non-Test playing Member of ACC selected through qualifying events," the ACC stated in its IEOI statement.
Notably, the T20 Asia Cup in India as well as the 50-over continental event in Bangladesh, in 2027, will have 13 games each as there are 26 matches allocated during the said period.
The 2023 edition was held in a hybrid model, hosted bythe Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), following India's refusalto travel to Pakistan. Rohit Sharma-led India's games were held in Sri Lanka. The Men in Blue went on to win the competition, beating Sri Lanka by a mammoth 10-wicket margin in the final. It was held in the 50-over format, with the World Cup just a few months away.
India are the most successful team in Asia Cup history (both ODIs and T20Is). They have won the tournament on eight occasions, most by any team.
