PM Modi invites Austrian businesses to become part of India’s economic boom, highlights PLI scheme

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday (Jul 10) urged Austrian businesses to come to India and become part of the country's economic boom. He also highlighted India's successful production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme that has driven the manufacturing of electrical products at home. PM Modi landed in Austria Tuesday night on a two-day visit, becoming the first Indian PM to visit the European nation in over four decades.
In the joint statement released late Wednesday, leaders from both nations emphasised on deepening their political, economic and security ties.
Security cooperation
PM Modi and Chancellor Karl Nehammer of Austria in the joint statement committed to a "free, open and rules-based" Indo-Pacific in accordance with the international law of the sea as reflected in UNCLOS and with "full respect for the sovereignty, territorial integrity and freedom of navigation to the benefit of maritime security and international peace and stability."
Ukraine war
Both nations offered their support to making efforts to achieve a comprehensive and lasting peace in Ukraine by "bringing together all stakeholders and a sincere and earnest engagement between the two parties to the conflict."

Terrorism
The two nations also condemned terrorism in any form. In their joint statement, they also stressed that no nation must provide a "safe haven to those who finance, plan, support or commit terrorist acts."
"Both sides also called for concerted action against all terrorists, including through designations or individuals affiliated with groups that are listed by the UN Security Council 1267 Sanctions Committee. Both countries reiterated their commitment to work together in FATF, NMFT and other multilateral platforms," read the joint statement.
Innovation and start-up ecosystems
The two leaders welcomed the efforts to link the innovation and start-up ecosystems of the two countries through the Start-Up Bridge set up during the visit of the Austrian Minister of Labour and Economy to India in February 2024 and the successful visit of a group of Indian Start-Ups to Austria in June 2024.
International Solar Alliance
During the visit, PM Modi invited Austria to be a member of the India-led International Solar Alliance (ISA), which is already 100-member strong.
India also extended its support to Austria's UNSC candidature for the term 2027-28.
