German nurse allegedly killed 100 patients due to 'boredom'

In a horrific incident, a male nurse in Germany allegedly used lethal drugs on patients out of "boredom"which may have taken lives of around 100 patients.

Niel Hoegel, 41, is serving life imprisonment for two murders and four counts of attempted murder for using lethal drugs on intensive-care patients at the Delmenhorst hospital in 2015.

In late August, police had confirmed that Hoegel may have killed at least another 84 patients other than the ones he was serving time for, when Niels Hoegel's worked as the nurse in two hospitals in Oldenburg and Delmenhorst.

Police further said that they have finished running toxicology tests on other reported 41 fatalities.

According to Independent UK, toxicological examinations uncovered further 16 cases in which he is suspected to have killed patients.

"The insights we were able to gain are terrifying, they surpass what we could have imagined," said Johann Kuehme, police chief in the city of Oldenburg, where the other hospital is located, reportedAFP.

"He cannot remember every case, but in more than 30 he concretely remembered the patients and theirbehaviour," said prosecutor Daniela Schiereck-Bohlemann.

Reports have confirmed that Hoegel has admitted to injecting patients with lethal drugs, due to "boredom", which could potentially lead to heart failure or circulatory collapse and in the process tried to make them come back to life, and if successful, make a "breakthrough revelation".

Hoegel worked at the Oldenburg hospital from 1999 to 2002 and in Delmenhorst from 2003 to 2005.
