Delhi police say animal spotted in Rashtrapati Bhavan was 'common house cat'

Amid the grand and beautifully lit oath-taking ceremony being held at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Sunday (June 9),citizens noticed an uninvited guest. A short video clip of the ceremony went viral in which the netizens, with their sharp eyes, noticed an animal roaming in the corridors of the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Now, Delhi police have claimed that the animal was none other than a 'common house cat'. In a statement posted on X, it said, "Some media channels and social media handles are showing an animal image captured during the live telecast of oath taking ceremony held at the Rashtrapati Bhavan yesterday, claiming it to be a wild animal."
"These facts are not true, the animal captured on camera is a common house cat. Please don't adhere to such frivolous rumours," it added.
The incident took place when Madhya Pradesh MP Durgadas Uikey, who is also known as DD Uikey, was taking oath as one of the union ministers.

In the video, an animal was seen casually walking in the Rashtrapati Bhavan when the official procedure was being carried out on the stage.
How didnetizens react to the viral video?
Some said that the animal was a leopard, while others wondered if it was a pet animal and some even raised questions over the video's authenticity.
Some users even claimed that the video was edited with a focus on its background.
Reacting to the viral video, a user wrote, "So wild animals are now casually roaming about in Rashtrapati Bhavan?? That is not a pet animal. What was the security doing?? Did all the CCTV footages break? Were the security personnel sleeping in the control room?"

So, is the video authentic?
Yes, the visuals are authentic as similar footage was recorded during the live broadcast on Doordarshan, the Indian public broadcaster.

Rashtrapati Bhavan has rich flora and fauna. As per its officialwebsite, it has many animals and birds, which includes 136 wild plant species and 84 animal species.
Narendra Modi took the oath as the prime minister along with 72 Council of Ministers in a grand swearing-in ceremony at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Sunday (June 9).
