Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah today said he was happy with the Supreme Court's verdict on the Cauvery dispute.
"We are very happy with the verdict. The verdict is a balanced verdict which protects interest of both the states. This is a good judgement which will go long way in ensuring peace in both the states," Mohan V Katarki, counsel for the state of Karnataka told ANI after the verdict.
Tamil Nadu's ruling AIADMK called the verdict a day of injustice for Tamil Nadu.
The opposition party, the DMK said it was shocked.
DMK working president Stalin said that Tamil Nadu had been cheated.
"AIADMK government has lost the rights that Kalaignar (M Karunanidhi) achieved for Tamil Nadu. Tamil Nadu has been cheated. I urge the Tamil Nadu chief minister to call an all-party meeting with farmers' association," said Stalin.

Actor Kamal Haasan said he was shocked at the reduction in the supply of water but said the fact that the Supreme Court had said that water could not be owned by any one state was a consoling factor.
"I am also shocked at the reduction in the supply of water. I have to get more details about the actual judgement but I think Supreme Court firmly said that water can't be owned by any state. That's a consoling factor,"Kamal Haasan said.
Former Karnataka chief minister Jagadish Shettar said prima facie he welcomed the verdict.
"Will react in detail after reading the judgement but prima facie we welcome it," Jagadish Shettar said.
The advocate for the Tamil Nadu government said he hoped that the Tamil Nadu government would "take appropriate steps" after the verdict. He added that though he respected the verdict, "this is not enough."
"Originally awarded 192 TMC water to Tamil Nadu has been reduced with SC order. 14.75 TMC extra water has been given to Karnataka to provide drinking water to Bengaluru city. We hope that TN govt will take appropriate steps," said A Navaneethakrishnan, advocate for the Tamil Nadu government.
"We believe in verdict of the court and respect it. Surely, this is not enough. We have raised the shortfall of water with Union Minister Nitin Gadkari who have two plans to address the issue, one of which is linking river Godavari with Kallanai."
The Supreme Court directed Karnataka would get additional 14.75 thousand million cubic (TMC) water and Tamil Nadu would now get 177.25 TMC water instead of 192 TMC in its verdict on the 120-year-old dispute between the states of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
