Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA from Okhla constituency, Amanatullah Khan was taken into custody by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Monday (2 September), after being interrogated for six hours in connection to a money laundering probe tied to the Delhi Waqf Board case.
After the arrest, Khan was escorted from his residence by law enforcement and ED officials. Before the arrest, the ED had conducted a raid at Khan’s home in Okhla. Khan posted on X (formerly Twitter), stating, "ED people have just arrived at my house to arrest me."

At 7:43 am, he shared a video on X claiming that the government was targeting him and other AAP leaders. He wrote, "Just this morning, on the orders of the dictator, his puppet ED has reached my house. The dictator is leaving no stone unturned to harass me and AAP leaders. Is it a crime to serve the people honestly? How long will this dictatorship last?"
AAP leaders denounced ED's actions. AAP MP Sanjay Singh took to X and suggested that Khan was being targeted as part of the BJP's political vendetta.
Singh wrote, "Look at the cruelty of ED @KhanAmanatullah first he joined the ED investigation, then asked for time for further time, his mother-in-law has cancer, she has undergone an operation, and they reached the house early in the morning to raid. There is no evidence against @KhanAmanatullah but both Modi's dictatorship and ED's hooliganism continue."
Former Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia, who was recently released on bail in the liquor policy scam case, reacted to Khan's arrest andwrote, "This is the only work left for ED. Suppress every voice raised against the BJP. Break it. Arrest and put in jail those who do not break or get suppressed."
The ED’s case against Khan is connected to accusations that he engaged in illegal recruitment and leased Waqf Board properties illegally between 2018 and 2022, and benefitted financially.
The agency has previously questioned Khan and claimed "huge proceeds of crime" in cash through these illicit activities. The ED alleged that Khan used these funds to purchase properties under the names of his associates.
