Deepika Padukone has allegedly reacted to the comments made by Sandeep Reddy Vanga's brother, Pranay Reddy Vanga, over Deepika Padukone's exit from Spirit. Read on to know more.
Deepika Padukone's exit from Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Spirit has once again grabbed attention after a fresh claim surfaced about her alleged remuneration demands. The director's brother Pranay Reddy Vanga recently alleged that the actress had sought a 10 per cent share of the film’s profits, alongside discussions over her remuneration and working schedule.
Amid the renewed attention on the controversy, Deepika has seemingly reacted to the comments. According to the reports, the actor liked an Instagram post that questioned the criticism surrounding the reported profit-sharing demand and called out what it described as a gendered double standard in the film industry.
The carousel addressed Pranay Reddy Vanga’s comments, saying, "Sandeep Reddy Vanga's brother Pranay claims Deepika Padukone asked for 10% profit share of Spirit and I'm just wondering, did we forget male actors have been doing this for years? Why is a woman doing the same NEWS?”
The post went on to criticise the reaction to Deepika’s reported negotiations. "Breaking: Deepika Padukone Allegedly Wanted 10% Of Spirit's Profits. Judging by the meltdown, you'd think she asked for the entire film and Vanga estate. Sounds like we have a full-blown male-ego crisis on our hands. A woman rejected a deal, and misogyny couldn't handle a woman's "no,""
The carousel further argued that profit-sharing and working-hour conditions are not unusual for leading actors.
According to fans, Deepika’s like on the post is an apparent indication of her support for the argument.
Deepika was initially attached to Spirit, which stars Prabhas and is directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga. Her departure from the project at the time had sparked a widespread debate online.
In a recent interview with NTV Telugu, Pranay said, "The reason is the same as what was already mentioned. One was remuneration; the second was timing. Apart from that, there are some other reasons too. I don’t remember on the top of my head right now, but there were multiple things. It was Sandeep’s call."
He further claimed, "She demanded 10 per cent from the film’s profit. Soon after, everything went overboard. See, she can ask for anything. If we are willing to give, we can give. But the economics (budget) should also work out for us. We thought that it was not working. This is why we thought of other options."
Deepika has not publicly addressed Pranay’s latest claims.
