Zimbabwe cricket team runs riot in Gambia capitulation as records tumble left, right and centre
Records tumbled left, right and centre on Wednesday (Oct 23) in the Africa T20 World Cup qualifier as Zimbabwe beat Gambia by a huge margin of 290 runs. The match played at Ruaraka Sports Club Ground in Nairobi saw Zimbabwe’s Sikandar Raza smash a 32-ball hundred as they posted a massive 344/4 in 20 overs. On the way to amassing the huge score, Zimbabwe set several records for a Test-playing nation in the shortest format.

Playing in the group stage qualifier against Gambia, Raza and Co started on the front foot as they became the first Test-playing nation to score 300 in the T20I format. This comes a couple of weeks after India scored 297 against Bangladesh in a T20I match. There was a record stand of 141 runs for the fifth wicket with more than three fifty-plus partnerships in the innings. Sikandar Raza scored 133 off 43 balls and hit 15 sixes and 7 fours while he scored at a strike rate of over 300.
Tadiwanashe Marumani was also at his best and scored 62 off 19, also scoring at a strike rate of above 300. Clive Madande joined the party later and scored 53 runs off 17 balls which included 5 sixes and 3 fours.
Interestingly, five Gambia bowlers went for more than 50 runs in their spell while skipper Ismaila Tamba's only yielded 24 runs.
