Much to the delight of the local crowd, the Bulawayo Braves’ captain Sikandar Raza was on fire, playing an explosive hand with the bat and also picking crucial wickets to help seal the win.

Batting first, the Bulawayo Braves were off to a good start with Ben McDermott (18) taking the attack to the bowling. However, McDermott and Kobe Herft (5) could not keep the opening stand going and departed within the first three overs, which saw the local hero Sikandar Raza take centre stage.

While Raza held forte at one end, the Harare Hurricanes’ Tinotenda Maposa was causing havoc with the ball at the other end. He dismissed Ashton Turner (5) and Ryan Burl (0) before Brandon Mavuta also got into the act, packing off the likes of Thisara Perera (4), Timycen Maruma (12) and Faraz Akram (0) in quick succession. The Bulawayo Braves had been reduced to 78/7 in seven overs, with Raza soldiering on at one end.

The Zimbabwean star was in fine form but did not have enough support from the rest of the batters. Bangladesh’s Taskin Ahmed (4) fell soon after as well, having put on a 26-run stand with Raza.

While skipper Raza was dealing in boundaries at his end, Tymal Mills (0) could not hang in and was cleaned up by Nandre Burger in the 9th over. Raza, who smashed five sixes and four boundaries, helped propel the Braves to 128/9 in 10 overs, finishing with an unbeaten 62 on his own.

In response, the Harare Hurricanes, had a slow start, losing the experienced Indian batter Robin Uthappa for a duck as Taskin Ahmed struck in the first over. In the next over Donovan Ferreira (2) was castled by Tymal Mills, while former England captain Eoin Morgan was doing his best to steady the ship.

With the Braves keeping things very tight, Morgan (7) tried to break the shackles but cut it straight into the hands of the third man fielder in the 5th over. At the half-way stage, the Hurricanes, were behind the run-rate with the score at 32/3. Mohammad Nabi was the next to be dismissed for 22, with the score at 33/4 in the 6th over

After that Irfan Pathan picked the gaps and helped the team over the 50-run mark in the 7th over, but at the other end Samit Patel (3) was packed off by Patrick Dooley, which put Braves in control of proceedings. In the very next over, Pathan (15) chopped it onto his stumps as Raza got into the act with the ball. Raza struck off the very next delivery as well, trapping Tashinga Musekiwa lbw for a duck and had the Hurricanes in trouble.&nbsp;

Luke Jongwe looked to finish off the innings with a couple of big hits, but fell in the final over for 20, as the Hurricanes lost on the day.

With this win, Zimbabwe reached the top on the points table with three wins in as many matches, while former two-time World Cup winners West Indies is third on the chart behind the Netherlands in Group A.

After being asked to bat first, Zimbabwe got off to a cautious start, with both openers seeing off the new ball and taking their chances on the bad ones. West Indian team made a comeback in the game by picking three wickets inside six overs, including the captain Craig Ervine on 47.

Following Sean Williams’ wicket on 23, Raza and Ryan Burl stitched a 77-run stand for the fifth wicket before Akeal Hosein dismissed Burl on a well-made 50. On the other hand, Raza continued with his good run of form with the bat, completing a fifty at a time when his team needed him the most.

"I just wanted to go out there," said the 37-year-old Pakistan-born all-rounder, who sealed victory with 55 balls remaining.

"The&nbsp;platform was already set, I just wanted to stay humble and respect every ball but it was there, I went for it.

"As long as we win the game, we are happy and we are happy for each other's performance."

Group A's other match saw Nepal, who lost their opener to Zimbabwe, beat the United States by six wickets.

It was a second defeat for the Americans after they went down to the West Indies in their opening game.

The action continues Wednesday, with Ireland facing Scotland and Oman taking on the United Arab Emirates in Group B matches at Bulawayo.

Only two of the 10 teams taking part in the three-week qualifier will make the World Cup to be played in India in October and November.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Monday announced the Most Valuable Team of the T20 World Cup 2022 after England defeated Pakistan in the final to win the elusive trophy. England thrashed Pakistan by five wickets after comfortably chasing down the target of 138 runs at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in the summit clash.

A total of 12 players from six teams have been selected in the Most Valuable Team of the tournament with two Indian stars also making the cut. Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav are two Indian players who have been picked in&nbsp;the star-studded team after their brilliant show with the bat in the competition.

While Kohli topped the run-scoring charts in the tournament with 296 runs from six matches at an average of over 98 and a strike rate of 136, Suryakumar finished third with 239 runs from six matches. Both batters played an instrumental role in helping India make it to the semi-finals and were consistent throughout the tournament.

Four players from England's World Cup-winning team were also named in the Most Valuable Team of the tournament. Player of the Tournament Sam Curran, who picked up 13 wickets in six matches, captain Jos Buttler, his opening partner Alex Hales, and pacer Mark Wood all made the cut in the team.

Buttler scored 225 runs and effected nine dismissals from behind the stumps while his opening partner Hales scored 212 runs at an average of over 42. Wood finished the tournament with nine wickets and dazzled with his pace.

Only two players from Pakistan managed to make the cut in the elite squad despite the team reaching the final. All-rounder Shadab Khan and fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi feature in the Most Valuable Team of the Tournament. Zimbabwe's Sikandar Raza, who was one of the most consistent performers with the bat and the ball, also deservingly made the cut.

England thrashed Pakistan by five wickets after comfortably chasing down the target of 138 runs at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in the summit clash. A total of 12 players from six teams have been selected in the Most Valuable Team of the tournament with two Indian stars also making the cut. Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav are two Indian players who have been picked in the star-studded team after their brilliant show with the bat in the competition. While Kohli topped the run-scoring charts in the tournament with 296 runs from six matches at an average of over 98 and a strike rate of 136, Suryakumar finished third with 239 runs from six matches. Both batters played an instrumental role in helping India make it to the semi-finals and were consistent throughout the tournament. Buttler scored 225 runs and effected nine dismissals from behind the stumps while his opening partner Hales scored 212 runs at an average of over 42. Wood finished the tournament with nine wickets and dazzled with his pace. Only two players from Pakistan managed to make the cut in the elite squad despite the team reaching the final. All-rounder Shadab Khan and fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi feature in the Most Valuable Team of the Tournament. Zimbabwe's Sikandar Raza, who was one of the most consistent performers with the bat and the ball, also deservingly made the cut. Sikandar Raza`s crucial knock of 115 runs went in vain as Zimbabwe failed to stop India from completing a 3-0 sweep. Chasing a target of 290, Zimbabwe got off to a decent start as their openers Takudzwanashe Kaitano and Innocent Kaia tried to play big shots. But the duo could not stand in front of the brilliant bowling of Deepak Chahar dismissed Kaia on 6 runs. Takudzwanashe Kaitano was in red-hot form, smashing Indian bowlers for big shots but his innings were cut short as he walked off the ground due to injury. Tony Munyonga came in his place. Sean Williams and Munyonga developed a much-needed partnership for their team as they took their team`s total beyond the 50-run mark, Munyonga smashing two fours in the spell of Deepak Hooda.

Earlier, a superb maiden hundred by batter Shubman Gill and a half-century by Ishan Kishan powered India to 289/8 at the end of their 50 overs. The day was extremely memorable for the Indian batters as they smashed Zimbabwe all over the park, Gill (130) and Kishan (50) in particular. Brad Evans (5/54) got his maiden five-wicket haul and all the big stars under his kitty, but there were not much positives for Zimbabwe other than that they could restrict India to a below-300 total.

Electing to bat first, India was off to a solid start. Openers KL Rahul and Shikhar Dhawan rotated the strike really well, going big only occasionally. Dhawan was more aggressive of two as he got some neat hit crossing the fence for a four. Rahul focused mainly on strike rotation and giving himself some game time. At the end of 10 overs, India was at 41/0 with Dhawan (25*) and Rahul (12*) at the crease. Zimbabwe had a slight edge over India in the next ten overs as India`s run-making was not really fast. The duo crossed the fifty-run stand in 74 balls. The 63-run stand between the duo was broken after Brad Evans`s delivery edged Rahul`s bat and went shattering his stumps. KL`s stay ended in 45-ball 30 runs, with only one four and six, not exactly a stay he was hoping for.

Shubman Gill was the next batter on the crease. At the end of 20 overs, India was at 77/1 with Dhawan (39*) and Gill (4*) at the crease. Though Gill and Dhawan kept the scoreboard ticking for a while, their stand lasted only 21 runs. Evans got his second wicket in the match as a leading edge off Dhawan`s bat was caught by Sean Williams at the cover region. Dhawan was back in the hut after a 68-ball 40. Ishan Kishan was next up on the crease. An amazing drive by Kishan on the first ball of the 25th overtook India past the 100-run mark. Gill and Kishan continued to pile up runs, bringing up their 50-run stand and reached the 150-run mark in 35 overs. Gill was looking in fine touch and brought up his half-century in 51 balls, his fourth in ODIs. The duo also brought up their hundred-run stand in 99 balls. The duo`s assault did not end even after that as they kept scoring runs.

Kishan brought up his second half-century in ODIs off 61 balls. Ishan Kishan was run out in the 43rd over for 50 off 61 balls. The new batter Deepak Hooda was also dismissed for one of three balls by Evans, who struck for the third time in the innings. Gill brought up his maiden hundred in 82 balls. Sanju Samson was the next up on crease. He could score only 15 runs off 13 balls before Luke Jongwe cleared him. At this point, half of the side was back in the hut for 256 runs.Gill kept going and his next partner was Axar Patel, who could not last long either as he was dismissed by Victor Nyauchi for just 1.Gill departed for a well-made 130 off 97 balls and it was Evans who got his wicket after he was caught by Innocent Kaia at long-off.

Sanju Samson was the next up on crease. He could score only 15 runs off 13 balls before Luke Jongwe cleared him. Debutant leg-spinner Mavuta claimed 4/21 and off-spinner Raza took 3/41 as hosts Bangladesh were left chasing 321 runs on the fourth day in the northeastern city of Sylhet.&nbsp;

Wellington Masakadza, another debutant, also shone with two wickets as Zimbabwe made quick work of Bangladesh's lower order, dismissing the hosts for 169.&nbsp;

Left-arm spinner Maskadza took the final wicket of the innings, sending Ariful Haque for 38 as Zimbabwe notched their first Test win since beating Pakistan in Harare in 2013.

It is also the first time Zimbabwe has clinched an away Test victory since beating Bangladesh in Chittagong 17 years ago in 2001.

"I am ecstatic. I thought the guys went out and worked really hard to apply themselves," Zimbabwe captain Hamilton Masakadza said in the post match presentation ceremony.

Zimbabwe sensed a win once Raza claimed three vital wickets in the opening session to reduce Bangladesh's innings to half.&nbsp;

Kyle Jarvis and Mavuta joined the act with Raza in the morning as they chipped in with a wicket apiece to leave Bangladesh 111-5 at the break.&nbsp;

Bangladesh resumed play on 26/0 but within half-an-hour had lost their first wicket, with others following quickly.

Play started 30 minutes early to make up for the lost time after bad light brought a premature end to day three, with Bangladesh still needing 295 runs on a wearing pitch.

The home side -- whose best run chase was 217-6 against the West Indies in 2009 -- started to throw wickets once Raza reviewed a leg-before appeal against opener Liton Das.

The umpire gave Liton not out but a TV replay indicated the ball would have hit the stump after pitching outside off -- ending Liton's innings on 23.

One down, Mominul Haque dragged a Jarvis delivery onto his stumps for nine before Raza bowled Imrul Kayes for 43 to leave Bangladesh at 83-3.

Skipper Mahmudullah promoted himself to number four but could not rescue his side and perished for 16, giving a catch to substitute fielder Craig Ervine at short leg off Raza.

Raza then took a spectacular catch at cover on the stroke of lunch to hand debutant Mavuta his maiden Test wicket and send back Nazmul Hossain.

"I think the wicket was good, but we didn't apply ourselves with the bat. We were not disciplined enough to restrict our strokes," said Bangladesh skipper Mahmudullah.

Mavuta dismissed Bangladesh's last accomplished batsman Mushfiqur Rahim soon after play resume before Zimbabwe wrapped things up.

The second Test will be held in Dhaka from November 11-15.
