Maserati unveils GranCabrio Folgore Tignanello: first fully electric luxury covertible

To commemorate the 50 anniversary of Tignanello, Maserati has created a bespoke version of their latest electric vehicle, the GranCabrio Folgore. This custom-made car, exclusively designed for Marchesi Antinori, represents the pinnacle of Maserati's current all-electric production. The unique vehicle is set to be auctioned on July 14 in California at Festival Napa Valley's Arts for All Gala, one of the most prestigious arts charity events in the United States.

This collaboration brings together two iconic Italian brands- Maserati, celebrating its 110 anniversary, and Marchesi Antinori, a family-owned winery with over 600 years of history spanning 26 generations. Both companies embody the essence of Italian excellence, innovation, and tradition.

The design inspiration for this special edition GranCabrio Folgore draws from the vineyard, symbolising roots and territory. Both Maserati and Marchesi Antinori place great importance on their local heritage, which significantly enhances the value of their products. The car's design pays homage to the cellar where wine is crafted and incorporates elements from the iconic Tignanello label, which has remained unchanged for half a century.

Maserati's designers conducted extensive research into the unique history of Tignanello to create a vehicle that truly embodies the characteristics and values of both Marchesi Antinori and the wine itself. The result is a car that serves as a moving tribute to the prestigious Tignanello vineyard and the wine's 50-year legacy, featuring carefully selected colours, innovative materials, and refined artisanal details.

The exterior of the GranCabrio Folgore Tignanello showcases a custom-created body colour called Terra di Tignanello. This chestnut hue is inspired by the soil of the vineyard, enhanced with coppery burgundy tones reminiscent of Tignanello's characteristic wine barrels. The paint has a rich, metallic finish that evokes the ambiance of the estate and winery. Complementing this unique color are matte black rims, glossy black brake calipers, and copper-colored emblems, including a glossy copper Maserati logo set against a glossy background. The soft top of the convertible is finished in black.

The interior of the vehicle is where the most romantic and detailed tributes to Tignanello can be found. The seats feature leather embellished with a multi-material silver and burgundy ribbed weave made from Vegea, an innovative fabric derived from vineyards. This material, used for the first time in a Maserati, mimics the pattern of vine rows on the Tignanello hill, interspersed with Albarese rocks. The fabric has the look and feel of leather, adding to the car's luxurious ambiance.

Other interior details include dark briar wood panels with laser-engraved text describing the creation of Tignanello. The headrests feature elegant embroidery that combines the Maserati Trident with Tignanello's signature sun emblem, a long-standing feature of the wine's label. This sun symbol is also laser-engraved on the central tunnel, along with the dates 1971-2021, marking the first and current vintages of Tignanello and celebrating its 50-year history.

Klaus Busse, Maserati's Head of Design, emphasised that this collaboration exemplifies the essence of their Fuoriserie customisation program, which aims to create bespoke experiences for Maserati customers. He noted that telling a story of Italian excellence through their designs is a source of pride and constant inspiration for the Maserati team.

Piero Antinori expressed the family's pride in this collaboration, highlighting the shared values of continuous improvement and pursuit of quality that unite Maserati and Marchesi Antinori. He emphasised on the uniqueness of this model, inspired by Tignanello's 50 anniversary, and its strong identity and recognisability, mirroring the characteristics of their renowned wine.

The GranCabrio Folgore itself is a groundbreaking vehicle, being the first all-electric convertible in the luxury segment and the fastest of its kind on the market. It combines high performance with Maserati's signature comfort and elegance, featuring a battery system based on 800V technology developed with insights from Formula E racing.

This special edition GranCabrio Folgore Tignanello stands as a testament to the innovation, craftsmanship, and heritage of two of Italy's most respected brands, creating a unique fusion of automotive excellence and wine making artistry.
