‘Tehran should be punished,’ says daughter of German-Iranian man who was reportedly executed

Iran's decision to execute a 69-year-old German-Iranian national has sparked outrage in Germany and beyond.Jamshid Sharmahd was reportedly executed on Monday (Oct 28)after spending years in captivity.
Sharmahd, a German citizen of Iranian descent and a United States (US) resident, was seized by Iranian authorities in 2020 while travelling through the United Arab Emirates (UAE), according to his family.
He was convicted of playing a role in a 2008 mosque bombing in the Iranian city of Shiraz, in which 14 people were killed and 300 wounded.

Tehran should be punished: Sharmahd's daughter
Sharmahd's daughterGazelle has demanded proof of her father's death and said that the Iranian government should be punished over the treatment meted out to him.
In a post on the social media platform X, Gazelle said that she was willing to speak to the governments of Germany and the US over the case, adding that she would assess if they had proof that Jamshid had been executed.

If so, she said her father's body should be handed over and"a severe punishment for the Islamic Regime murderers" should follow.
Germany calls execution a 'scandal'
Germany called the reported execution of Jamshid Sharmahd a "scandal" and warned of "serious consequences" for the Iranian regime.
Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock said the killing "shows once again what kind of inhumane regime rules in Tehran: a regime that uses death against its youth, its own population and foreign nationals."
Foreign MinisterBaerbock said the execution underlined the fact that no one was safe under the new Iranian government either. She said this in reference tothe administration of President Masoud Pezeshkian, who was inaugurated in July.
German ChancellorOlaf Scholz also condemned Sharmahd's reported execution and pointed out that the 69-year-olddid not even get the opportunity to defend himself against the charges at the trial.
However, Gazelle Sharmahd accused both the German and US governments of "abandoning" her father in negotiations and said that the family had been ignored.
