The 28-year-old was also put on probation and ordered to seek therapy. During the trial, he told the Thessaloniki court he couldn't explain his foot fetish. He admitted that what he was doing was extremely embarrassing but didn't know what to say about it.

The man further stated that he did not intend to harm anyone, nor did he want to break the law.

Reports suggest that the neighbours had often found him sniffing shoes. They say that in the past six months, they saw him engage in the disgusting act at least three times. The last incident was when a neighbour kept out his family's shoes to air out. He says he saw him there sniffing shoes.

After several incidents of sniffing, the neighbours approached the man's family and asked them to get him to stop. However, he still seemed to continue doing it and started entering people's homes without their permission.

However, the neighbours admit that they never sensed any hostility from him and he did not threaten them ever.

Strange obsessions

While smelling shoes might look like an extremely weird obsession, it is not the only one out there. Several people are known to be addicted to eating weird things, like toilet paper, cat hair directly off them, rocks, cigarette ashes and more.

There have been cases where people were found to have consumed coins, keys, knives and even human hair.

Some people are also known to be strangely obsessed with their inanimate possessions, like being in a relationship with a real person.
