Georgia election case: Trump, co-defendants get another chance to get prosecutor Fani Willis disqualified

In the Georgia election subversion case, Judge Scott McAfee has granted Donald Trump and his co-defendants the opportunity to appeal his decision regarding the prosecutor Fani Willis. The judge ruled that Willis could continue as long as a co-prosecutor she had a romantic relationship with resigned from the case.
The case against Trump and others, who are charged with plotting to overturn the 2020 US presidential election in which Joe Biden was elected, will proceed while the appeal is underway.

The co-defendant in the Georgia election subversion caseMichael Roman alleged that Willis, the Fulton County District Attorney, was improperly benefiting from a romantic relationship with lead prosecutor Nathan Wade. After this, several co-defendants, including Donald Trump soughtWillis's disqualification and the dismissal of election subversion charges.
Willis later admitted to the relationship with Wade but denied any financial benefit.

Judge McAfee's ruling denounced Willis for a "serious lapse in judgment" and added that the relationship tainted the case's integrity with the "appearance of impropriety."
The judge presented the prosecution with an ultimatum: either Wade resigns, or Willis and her office are removed from the case. Wade promptly resigned following the decision.
What next?
On Wednesday (March 20), the court approved the defence's motion to appeal and added the allegations against Willis as crucial to the case's integrity. The court would continue proceedings in the election subversion case while Trump and his co-defendants pursue their appeal.

Trump's legal team has argued that the court did not adequately address the prosecutorial misconduct of Willis and Wade.

They have announced their intention to escalate the matter to the Georgia Court of Appeals.
The Georgia election interference case is one of four criminal cases Trump faces and has drawn scrutiny from both sides of the political spectrum ahead of the November presidential elections in which Trump is set for a rematch with serving US President Joe Biden.
