The former wife of celebrity zoologist Adam Britton - who was imprisoned for raping, torturing and killing dogs - revealed to the Australian news show “60 Minutes” what was the moment when she discovered her then-husband's “evil” abuse.

Erin, while speaking at the show, further said that the zoologist had even begged her to provide him with some dog books when he was in jail.

Speaking on the news show, Erin confided that she had gone out of town when she was informed about police officials storming their home in Darwin.

Erin said that she had “no idea why or what the crimes were” till a lawyer informed her that her husband is facing an accusation of raping and torturing 42 dogs and of killing at least 39 of those animals.

“She told me that there were crimes of animal cruelty and, you know, obviously there was bestiality. And when she told me bestiality, my brain was, like, denial,” Erin recalled.

“Hearing that information is the most awful thing you could ever hear about your partner. It was so shocking … I felt sick I couldn’t speak. I couldn’t think. He is a psychopath … I cannot comprehend still how someone could be so depraved, so evil," she added.

Britton destroyed my entire life, claims wife Erin

After the revelation, the British-born zoologist's wife divorced Britton, but she claimed that he continued contacting her from the prison and begged her to give him books on dog domestication, breed history and behaviour.

“He’s writing about this as if he can, sort of, continue his fantasies in his mind, and it makes me really angry,” said Erin, adding that the “disturbing” request “messed” with her head.

“He doesn’t have any consciousness of what is right or wrong, I feel like I’ve lost so much of my life and I feel like I’ve been completely duped. He’s just destroyed my entire life," Erin said.

Britton used to work with David Attenborough on the BBC. Last month, he was sentenced to 10 years' imprisonment for possessing child pornography and carrying out the horrific abuse of dogs.
