Social media reacts
The video has gone viral on social media, gaining several reactions.
“That is an incredible ‘one-in-a-million’ moment! It’s a relief that both the surfer and the whale walked (and swam) away unharmed. It definitely gives a whole new meaning to the term ‘breaching’ the water!” one user wrote in the comments.
Another said, “Insane how fast that whale surfaced! Both lucky to walk (or swim) away unharmed. Nature is wild.”
“Classic ‘WATCH WHALE YOU'RE GOING’ moment in SF Bay a windsurfer launched airborne after colliding with a surfacing gray whale near Crissy Field. Both walked (and swam) away unharmed, proving nature’s mass still trumps human momentum. A wild reminder that even in busy urban waters, wildlife claims the right of way. Respect the ocean's giants; they're not obstacles. Epic footage physics lesson with a splash of awe,” said one person.
A user commented, “That’s honestly both incredible and a little scary at the same time. Nature can be so unpredictable, especially in places like San Francisco Bay. Really glad to hear that both the windsurfer and the whale were unharmed—could have turned out much worse.”
