Cook began his 161st and final Test match, eager to end a magnificent 12-year international career with a flourish but lost his wicket after scoring 71 runs.
The final Test of a five-match series between India and England is underway at The Oval cricket ground in London's Kennington. All eyes are on England's batsman Alastair Cook as he is playing the last match of his cricketing career.
Recently, Cook announced his retirement from the international cricket saying, "I have given everything and there is nothing left in the tank."
From former cricketers to fans, the 33-year-old received best wishes from all around the world for his exceptional career.
He walked on to the pitch through an Indian guard of honour to open the batting for England in the first innings.
He also received a thunderous ovation from the packed stands and Indian skipper Virat Kohli walked up to him tocongratulate him personally.
Alastair Cook has retired as England's record Test run-scorer and sits sixth on the all-time list.
