Ryan International murder: Bus conductor Ashok Kumar released from jail

Ashok Kumar, the bus conductor first accused of the murder of Pradyuman Thakur, a class II student of Ryan International School in Gurgaon, has been released for jail.

Ashok Kumar was granted bail by the Gurgaon district court on a bond of Rs 50,000 on Tuesday. His lawyer had said that he was given benefit of doubt since there were a lot of differences between the findings of the CBI and the Haryana Police.

"The bail was granted under Article 21 of the constitution. There were lot of differences between findings of CBI and Haryana Police. We were given benefit of doubt," Ashok Kumar's lawyer, Anil Sharma, told ANI.

The bail was granted as the CBI could not submit any evidence against the bus conductor.

Seven-year-old Pradyuman had been found dead in the school toilet with his throat slit on September 8.

Gurgaon Police arrested Ashok on the day of the murder and accused him of committing the crime.

The case was finally handed over to the CBI on the insistence of Pradyuman's father, who insisted the Gurgaon Police was covering something up.

The CBI recently announced a new suspect -- a class XI boy who had wanted to get an exam and a parent-teacher meeting postponed.

The conductor’s counsel had decided to move a bail plea in the court after the bus conductor was declared innocent.
