Actor and Jana Sena party leader Pawan Kalyan, who often wades into the issue of the north-south divide, on Thursday attacked what he called the ''north Indian elite political leadership''.

''Northern Indian elite political leadership should have a deeper understanding of Southern India,'' the Andhra Pradesh politician has reported said.

Gandhiji or Sardar Patel were able to resolve the problems that the country faced as they travelled across the country.

''When Gandhiji or Sardar Patel were there, issues were resolved because they used to travel across and understand the spirit of the country,'' Kalyan said.

He also said that in the course of time he may ally with other stars from south India Rajinikanth and Kamal Hassan, who also recently plunged into politicis.

This is not the first time that Pawan has spoken on the issue of the north-south divide.

In February, Pawan Kalyan questioned the population-based formula for sharing tax revenues between states and asked whether the Centre was going to use the 'success of south Indian states' against their own interests.

In January, 2017, Pawan had told a news channel that “The north-south divide is not between people but political class. Same rule has to be applied all over.”
