Lok sabha elections 2024: 102-year-old casts vote at Jammu polling booth

A 102-year-old man showed up at a polling booth in Jammu to vote in the second phase of the Lok Sabha elections on Friday (Apr 26).
Haji Karam Din, holding a walking stick, entered the polling station in the Reasi district of the Jammu constituency, accompanied by a family member who assisted him with the pre-voting process.
After casting his vote, the centenarian showed his inked finger and posed for photos outside the polling booth.
"I am very happy to vote at this polling station at this age. I have voted every time. This journey is continuing even today at the age of 102," he told news agency PTI.
Reasi district is part of the Jammu parliamentary constituency with more than 17.81 lakh electors eligible to cast their vote to decide the fate of 22 candidates.
Current BJP MP Jugal Kishore Sharma is aiming for a third consecutive term after winning in the 2014 and 2019 elections. His main competitor is Raman Bhalla, a Congress candidate and former minister.

Voting began in the Jammu-Reasi Lok Sabha constituency with enthusiastic turnout, as some voters arrived at the polling stations dressed in traditional Dogra attire.
Polling commenced at 7 am across 2,416 polling stations in the constituency, with 10.39 per centof votes cast by 9 am. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Jammu had a voter turnout of 74 per cent.
This is the first major election in Jammu after the abrogation of Article 370 and the bifurcation of the erstwhile state into two Union Territories five years ago.
