Two terrorists were killed in a joint operation by the Indian Army and police in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir's Kulgam district on Saturday (Sep 28), officials said.
Three Army personnel and two police officers sustained injuries in the gunbattle, which erupted after the security forces targeted a terrorist hideout.
A large cache of arms, including sophisticated rifles, was also recovered after the encounter, South Kashmir DIG Javed Ahmad Matoo said.
All of the injured security personnel were immediately shifted to a hospital for treatment, where their condition was said to be stable.
In a post on X, the Kashmir Zone Police said that the encounter broke out at the Adigam Devsar area of Kulgam.
"Encounter started at Adigam Devsar area of Kulgam. Police and security forces are on the job. Further details shall follow," the Kashmir Zone Police said.

In the last few months, there has been a spike in terror attacks in the Kashmir Valley.
This encounter in Kulgam came nearly a week after a gunfight broke out between terrorists and security forces in the Chatroo area of J-K's Kishtwar, a report by the news agency ANI said.
On September 15, an encounter was reported in the Kalaban area. A joint search operation was launched by security forces and the area was cordoned off, ANI reported.

Two days earlier (on Sep 13), two army soldiers were killed in a gun battle with terrorists in the Kishtwar district.
