In a shocking incident, a 12-year-old girl was slapped 168 times over a period of six days in Madhya Pradesh's Thandla.

The incident took place at Navodaya Vidyalaya in Thandala wherein a Class VI girl was punished for not completing her homework.

A teacher here punished the girl by asking her classmates to slap her 168 times.

The teacher was reported to have instructed 14 girls to slap the girl two times a day for six days

The father of the victim noted that his daughter was unable to complete her homework as she wasn't keeping well.

The girl was admitted to a local hospital as she fell sick due to fear and distress; she even refused to go to the school.

Meanwhile, the school principal defended the teacher calling her direction a "friendly" punishment.

The principal said "we don't allow corporal punishment in the school. The girl is weak in studies and doesn't complete her assignments."

He also added that the teacher chose this form a punishment to improve her performance in school.

The station in-charge, Thandla police confirmed the report adding that no injury was reported after examining the victim.
