Euro 2024: Spain beat England to win record fourth European title

Spain beat England 2-1 in the Euro 2024 Final on Sunday (Jul14) in Berlin, Germany to win their record fourth European championship title.Spain are now the first team to have four Euro titles, breaking the tie with Germany which also has three titles.
Spain had previously won the continental championship in 1964, 2008 and 2012. England, on the other, hand lost their second Euro final on the trot after losing to Italy in 2020 on penalties.
After the first half went goalless, Spain came out blazing in the second half and scored immediately. Nico Williams got Spain ahead in the 47th minute off a pass from Lamine Yamal.
England woke up immediately after that but were unable to break the Spanish defence. Half an hour later Cole Palmer sent a sensational shot into the net in the 70th minute to bring Three Lions alive.
The hopes of the game going to the extra time began looming for England but only for Mikel Oyarzabal to crush them in the 86th minute. The referees checked it for the offside but the goal stayed unlike the English hopes.

Spain's Lamine Yamal was named Young Player of the Tournament while his teammate Rodri was named Player of the Tournament.
Yamal, aged 17, broke multiple records in his maiden major tournament including one in the final.
Yamal, who celebrated his 17th birthday on Saturday (Jul 13), became the youngest player to feature in a major tournament's final (UEFA or EURO) at 17 years and one day.
He went past Brazil great Pele, who played in the 1958 FIFA World Cup Final aged 17 years and 249 days, to achieve the milestone.
Yamal is also the youngest ever to play as well as a goal scorer in the Euro championship. He played his first match against Croatia in the group stage and scored his first goal in the semis against France.
