The result, however, didn't go England's way as Spain sent their hopes of winning the maiden European title out of Germany with a late goal.
After the first half went goalless, Spain came out blazing in the second half and scored immediately. Nico Williams got Spain ahead in the 47th minute off a pass from Lamine Yamal.
England woke up immediately after that but were unable to break the Spanish defence. Half an hour later Cole Palmer sent a sensational shot into the net in the 70th minute to bring Three Lions alive.
The hopes of the game going to the extra time began looming for England but only for Mikel Oyarzabal to crush them in the 86th minute. The referees checked it for the offside but the goal stayed unlike the English hopes.
Spain eventually won 2-1 to take their Euro title tally to four - one more than Germany.
