Kamal Haasan asks fans to not address him as 'Ulaganayagan', says ' I respectfully decline such titles'

Veteran actor Kamal Haasan doesn't want his fans to call him Ulaganayagan. Known for his prolific acting, Haasan is one of the most acclaimed actors in Indian cinema, whose work has transcended generations.
Over the years, Haasan has been fondly called Ulaganayagan andAandavarby his millions of fans. And the actor has all respect for these fan titles. However, now the actor doesn't want to be addressed by these names anymore.
Days after celebrating his 70th birthday, Haasan shared a long statement in Tamil and English, requesting his fans to refer to him as Kamal Haasan, Kamal or KH.
In the statement, the actor wrote, "I have always felt a deep sense of gratitude over being bestowed with endearing titles as Ulaganayagan, among others. Such accolades, given by the people and recognised by esteemed colleagues and admirers, has always been humbling, and I've been genuinely moved by your love in conferring it upon me (sic)."
He added, "I am but a student of the craft, forever hoping to evolve, learn and grow. Cinema, like any other form of creative expression, belongs to all. It is the collaboration of countless artists, technicians and audience who make it what it is - a true reflection of humanity's diverse, rich and ever-evolving stories (sic)."

Haasan shared in a statement, ''I feel compelled to respectfully decline all such titles or prefixes.''
"Please know that this decision comes from a place of humility and a desire to remain true to my roots and purpose, to be always be one among all of us - the lovers of this beautiful artform," he added.
Haasan's statement comes after actor Ajith requested his fans to call him AK or Ajith Kumar instead of the fan title "Thala".
Meanwhile, on the work front, Haasan will next be seen in Thug Life. On his birthday, the first teaser of the movie was dropped.
Directed by Mani Ratnam, the actioner will hit the theatres on June 5, 2025.
