Michael Jackson biopic has a new release date. The film based on his life is helmed by Antoine Fuqua.
The film was earlier scheduled for April 18, 2025. It has now been moved six months further and will now release worldwide in theatres on October 3, 2025.
Lionsgate made the announcement earlier in the day. It has now set two titles for the year.
The leading role of the pop star will be played by Jaafar Jackson, who is the nephew of the late Michael Jackson. Actors Nia Long, Laura Harrier, Miles Teller and Colman Domingo will feature in pivotal roles. The film is scripted by John Logan with Graham King, John Branca and John McClain as producers.
On the film, Antoine Fuqua said, “Why I wanted to make it is, Michael. Michael was a big part of my life growing up, big influence on my career, an incredible artist — but he was a human being, and we’re exploring that. I’m very excited about it.”
We can expect some rare footages in the film too. At the CinemaCon held in April this year, makers shared footage from Michael where King revealed that the movie will include 30 songs and have a lengthy run time, in order to do justice to Michael Jackson’s story.
In addition to Michael Jackson’s biopic, Lionsgate has also set its comedy Good Fortune for wide theatrical release on October 17, 2025. The film will feature writer-director Aziz Ansari stars in the film alongside Seth Rogen, Keke Palmer, Sandra Oh and Keanu Reeves. Ansari, Anthony Katagas and Alan Yang serve as producers.
Good Fortune centres on a well-intentioned but slightly clueless angel (Reeves), who intervenes in the lives of a frustrated gig worker (Ansari) and a successful venture capitalist (Rogen).
