Bollywood is once again rife with speculation that Kareena Kapoor Khan and Dhanush could share the screen for the first time in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s next. Director PS Mithran has shared an update on the rumoured project.
Speculation has surfaced that Kareena Kapoor Khan and Dhanush could share the screen for the first time in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s next film. The buzz has intensified after director PS Mithran shared an update on the project, sparking curiosity among fans eager to see the two powerhouse performers together.

PS Mithran is currently promoting his upcoming Tamil spy-action thriller, Sardar 2, starring Karthi. In a conversation with Cinema Vikatan, the filmmaker delivered a sneak peek at the film. He said, “Talks are underway; we are looking at the dates for confirmation. Hopefully, something good will come out of it."
According to several reports, Bhansali’s next film will be a large-scale mythological jungle adventure. It is currently in the writing stage, and the script has reportedly undergone multiple rewrites before being finalised. Pre-production is expected to begin in November 2026, with principal photography planned for January 2027.
However, no official statement on these reports has been announced by either the production team or the actors.

First collaboration
If the reports become true, it will mark a first for everyone, from the film’s cast and crew to the director. It would be Mithran’s directorial debut in Hindi cinema, as well as the first on-screen pairing of Dhanush and Kareena Kapoor Khan. It would also mark Kareena and Dhanush’s first collaboration with Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
Before the reported project, Kareena Kapoor and Sanjay Leela Bhansali had a fallout in 2000, when the director approached the actress for Devdas. However, it was later reported that Bhansali signed Aishwarya Rai Bachchan for the female lead alongside Shah Rukh Khan.
As for Dhanush, the actor is gearing up for his upcoming film, Om – Chapter 1, an action thriller directed by Rajkumar Periasamy, scheduled to hit theatres globally on October 16, 2026.
At the 72nd National Film Awards, announced in July 2026, Dhanush won two major honours, which include Best Tamil Film for his directorial venture Raayan and a Special Mention (Actor) for his performance in Captain Miller.
Additionally, Kareena Kapoor Khan is also set to feature in Daayra, an investigative crime thriller directed by Meghna Gulzar and co-starring Prithviraj Sukumaran. The film is scheduled to be released in cinemas on September 18, 2026.
