The Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Friday (May 10) experienced a run-feast evening as Gujarat Titans (GT) batters Shubman Gill (104) and Sai Sudharsan (103) ran riot with the bat. The pair put together 210 runs for the opening wicket, thehighest for Gujarat Titans in the history of the IPL. The occasion was also the third time in IPL history that a team had two batters scoring hundreds in the same innings. The record partnership also helped GT score 231/3 in their 20 overs asCSK were puton the back foot.

GT openers run riot

Batting first, GT batter promoted Sudharsan to the opening spot to partner Gill as they dominated from the start. The pair stitched together 58 runs in the powerplay and weretopof their games.Both Gill and Sudharsan were scoringat identical strike rates as they scored their fifties together in the same over.After10overs, the GT were 107/0 as Gill and Sudharsan continued their steady progress.

In the 16th over, GT had put up 200 runs on the boardwithbothGill and Sudharsan scoring their hundreds in the same over.Gill first completed his hundred on the second ball with a fourwhileSudharsan got his ton on the final ball.Thiswas Sudharsan’s maiden hundredwhileGill amassed his fourth century in the IPL.

Both the batters were then dismissed in quick succession whichrestricted GT to 231/3 in 20 overs.Thiswas GT’s second-highest total in the IPL history.

At the time of writing, CSK were 85/3 after10overshavinglost three early wickets in the form of Rachin Ravindra (1), Ajinkya Rahane (1) and Ruturaj Gaikwad (0) all departed for low scores for the visitors. Daryl Mitchell (50) and Moeen Ali (30) were in the middlewithCSK still needing 146 runs to win in 10 overs.

A win for GT will see them retain remote hopes of a playoff spotwhilea defeat for CSK will dent their realistic top-fourspotas the competition is tough for a playoff spot.
