IPL 2024: BCCI fines Ruturaj Gaikwad and KL Rahul INR 1.2 million each for THIS reason

Ruturaj Gaikwad and KL Rahul, skippers of Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have been fined by the Board on Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The captains were reprimanded for maintaining a slow over rate during their sides' match on April 19.
With this being the first offence of both teams, they have been fined $15,000 (INR 12 lakh) each. The board released a statement regarding the same after the match. As for the match, LSG beat CSK by eight wickets on the back of Rahul's 53-ball 82.

Chasing a target of 177, LSG were in cruise control since the beginning, thanks to their openers Quinton de Kock (53) and Rahul adding 134 runs in 15 overs for the first wicket.
CSK had a good start to the game after winning the toss but lost the track in the middle overs. CSK skipper Gaikwad acknowledged that his team couldn't capitalise in the middle overs while Rahul gave credit to pre-plan strategy and execution for the below par target.
"Obviously, there's a bit of time we spend on doing homework, [and] talking about tactics and strategies against the opposition. And yeah, that was one of our strategies: to use pace, use spin, and make sure that they don't get settled into playing one type of bowling. So [I] tried to mix it around.

"And I think credit goes to the bowlers: I can do all the changing, but if they don't execute, then all of us look stupid as a team. They executed really well. We work really hard at training, and it's good to see that the team is sticking to the plans," Rahul said.
For CSK, it was their third loss in seven games as they stay put at third place on the 10-team points table. LSG, on the other hand, also have same wins in same number of games but are currently fifth on the points table owing to lower net run rate.
