Isuzu NRR-EV medium duty electric truck earns 50-state approval

Isuzu's latest addition to its medium-duty truck lineup, the electric NRR-EV, has reached a significant milestone in its journey to market. As anticipated, the vehicle has successfully obtained zero-emission certifications from two of the most influential environmental regulatory bodies in the United States: the California Air Resource Board (CARB) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). This dual certification, while expected, marks a crucial step in the truck's development and commercialisation process. With these approvals now secured, Isuzu has officially launched the NRR-EV for sale across the entire United States.

The NRR-EV boasts impressive versatility in its design, offering customers a range of battery configurations to suit various operational needs. The options span from a base setup of three 20 kWh battery packs (totaling 60 kWh) to a maximum configuration of nine 20 kWh packs, with intermediate options of five and seven packs available. The most extensive nine-pack version delivers an impressive range of up to 235 miles on a single charge, while maintaining a substantial Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of 19,500 pounds. Regardless of the chosen battery configuration, all NRR-EV models are equipped with a robust 150 kW electric motor capable of producing 380 lb-ft of torque, available instantly from 0 rpm - a characteristic advantage of electric powertrains.

Looking ahead, Isuzu has outlined its production plans for the NRR-EV. Assembly of these electric trucks is scheduled to commence in August 2024 at the company's facility in Charlotte, Michigan.
