Barron Trump, the youngest son of former US President Donald Trump, has opted out of his expected political debut at the upcoming Republican Party convention in July. Originally set to join as a delegate for Florida, Barron withdrew on Friday (May 10) citing prior commitments, according to a statement released by his mother, Melania Trump.

Barron Trump: A mystery?

The 18-year-old Barron has to thankhis mother Melania for keeping him out of the spotlight andliving privately despite the high public profile of his family. This is true even though he was residing in the White House during his father's presidency.

His involvement would have marked another Trump family member entering the political scene, joining his siblings—Donald Trump Jr., Eric Trump, and Tiffany Trump—who are active in politics and often seen at Republican events.

Both Eric and Donald Jr as per Reuters report, citing acampaign official are already on Florida's 41-person delegate list for the convention in Milwaukee. Trump's youngest daughter Tiffany Trump too is on the delegate list.

However, a statement from the office of Melania Trump, Donald Trump's third wife put a stop to the convention plan for Barron,as per AFP.

"While Barron is honoured to have been chosen as a delegate by the Florida Republican Party, he regretfully declines to participate due to prior commitments," read the statement.

Why is Milwaukee convention important?

The convention, scheduled to take place in Milwaukee, will see Donald Trump officially being crowned as the Republican nominee for the upcoming presidential election against rival Democrat Joe Biden.

It will see delegates from each state designating their candidatefor the upcoming November election, and Barron's participation would have been a significant moment.

The Trump family continues to be a prominent force within the Republican Party. Barron's sister Ivanka Trump has previously served as a senior advisor during her father's presidency, and Lara Trump, Eric's wife, recently tookup a leadership role within the Republican National Committee.
