At air show in China, Russia agrees to sell Su-57s to foreign customers: Reports

Russia has agreed to sellSu-57 fighter jets to foreign customers, state media reported on Wednesday (Nov 13). The Su-57 is a Russian-made fifth-generation multirole fighter designed to engageair, ground and naval targets.

According to a report by the TASS news agency, Rosoboronexport's Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Alexander Mikheyev said on Wednesday that the Russian state arms sellersigned the first contracts to deliver the export version of the Su-57 to foreign customers.

Mikheyev made this remark during a press conference as he attended theAirshow China in Zhuhai,Guangdong Province. The first appearance of the jet at the eventattracted wide attention from the people present there.

"The system of military-technical cooperation should bring new armaments and military hardware to the market. We have already signed the first contracts for the Su-57," Mikheyev said.

The impact of these deals

During the press conference, Mikheyev explained the expectations and the effect of demonstrating Russian military hardware at the airshow in Zhuhai.

"The economic effect is that we have our presence on the market and our partners from friendly countries want to buy Russian reliable and proven armament and, correspondently, to support our industry with export orders so that we can develop further and from generation to generation we used to create new products for the next 10-15 years," he said.

'Su-57 is superior...'

A day after the above deals were made, Russian test pilot Sergey Bogdan told the media thatthe Su-57 fifth-generation airplane was superior to any of the existing ones in the world.

"We never lag behind. We create our weapons against some competitors and always have a certain temporal reserve. We take into account many things. Our aircraft always boast a competitive edge," Bogdan said.

"When it comes to manoeuvrability, stability, and controllability, our competitors and rivals do not show everything. But in terms of what has been demonstrated, Russian aircraft are always a little bit ahead," he added.

The features of Su-57

As per the TASS report on Wednesday, the Su-57 has stealth technology with extensive use of composite materials. The fighter jetcan achieve supersonic cruising speeds.

It is equipped with cutting-edge onboard electronic systems and other innovations,in particular, armament placed inside its fuselage.
