In the ongoing World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, India's Neeraj Chopra on Thursday (September 18) had a tough day in the men's javelin final, finishing eighth with a throw of 84.03m. This is, for the first time in seven years, that he failed to win a medal for his country. However, what surprised everyone was debutant Sachin Yadav's performance, who finished fourth with a personal best throw of 86.27m. Before this event, his best was 85.16m, which he achieved at the Asian Athletics Championship earlier this year. Sachin also won a silver medal in this tournament.
Who is Sachin Yadav?
Sachin Yadav was born on 25 October 2025 and hails from Khekra village in Uttar Pradesh. In his teenage years, he loved to play cricket, but his neighbour and athlete Sandeep Yadav spotted his potential and encouraged him to switch from cricket to javelin at the age of 19.
In 2024, he won a gold medal at the All India Police Athletics Championships, with a throw of 84.21m, representing Uttar Pradesh Police in this tournament. He later added another gold medal to his tally at the Indian Grand Prix 3 and a silver medal at the National Open Athletics Championships.
In 2025, Sachin won a gold medal at the 38th National Games in Dehradun with a record throw of 84.39m, whereas in the Neeraj Chopra Case Classic tournament, he finished fourth with a throw of 82.33m. Interestingly, Sachin has often spoken and praised his admiration for Neeraj Chopra during his interviews with news channels.
