Champions League: Roma crush Barcelona, enter semi-final

AS Roma made a historic comeback in the Champions League encounter against Barcelona dumping the former champions with an impressive 3-0 scoreline.

The hostsovercomea 4-1 deficit from the first game atNou Camp to reach the last four on away goals reachingthesemi-finals for the first time since they reached the European Cup final in 1984.

Roma forward Edin Dzeko scored Roma's first goal beating the offside trap, captain De Rossi converted a penalty in the 58th for the hosts and Kostas Manolas headed the decisive third goal in the 82nd minute to put Roma in the semi-finals of the Champions League.

"This would be a great triumph for any team, but for Roma and considering our story in European competitions, it’s truly incredible," De Rossi said after the match.

"We knew it would be difficult, but we had that little bit of belief. The first leg showed us Barcelona had a lot of quality, but not as much as a few years ago. We knew the gap between us and them wasn’t 4-1," an elated Rossi said.

Crestfallen Barcelona coach Valverde said: "We weren’t capable in any moment of getting in the game because of how they approached the game.''

"They were very strong with second balls and we aren't used to defending like that," the Barcelona coach said.
