At least 27 children fell ill at a government school in Rajasthan's Kota district on Monday (Aug 24), shortly after allegedly eating the mid-day meal served at the school. The students as per an ANI report complained of headaches, dizziness and vomiting after consuming the food. Several of them were taken to a medical college for treatment, while authorities sent a medical team to the school to assess the situation.
Kota District Education Officer Roop Singh Meena reached the medical college after being informed about the incident. "I was informed that about 27 children were feeling unwell and complaining of headaches. Upon learning that 10 to 12 of these children had been brought to the medical college, I came here as well. Four children had already been admitted, and a medical team was sent to attend to the others," Meena said.
Children under observation
Officials said the affected students were being monitored and had received initial treatment.
"They are currently under observation to ensure no one develops a serious condition. Initial treatment has been administered, and we are monitoring them to ensure their vitals remain normal and their condition does not deteriorate," Meena said.
Rajasthan Minister Madan Dilawar also visited the hospital and spoke with the children and doctors. He said the students were stable and out of danger.
"Currently, I am at the medical college. I just met all the children, and everyone is fine. They told me that they experienced vomiting and felt dizzy. Now, everyone is healthy," Dilawar told reporters.

The incident has prompted an inquiry into the food served at the school.
"It is a matter of inquiry as to what happened and how it happened. We will look into the quality of the food served," Dilawar said.
Authorities have not yet established what caused the children to fall ill or whether the mid-day meal was responsible. The investigation will determine whether there was any issue with the food or its preparation.
Similar Bihar incident last week
The Kota incident comes days after a separate mid-day meal episode in Bihar.
On August 18, around 34 to 40 students at a government school in Nalanda district fell ill after detergent powder was allegedly added to their meal instead of salt. The students were taken to Biharsharif Sadar Hospital and were reported to be stable.
According to local claims cited in the earlier report, the salt and detergent had been stored together in the school kitchen and the cook allegedly mistook one for the other.
