The state government has appealed the Supreme Court to uphold the earlier 3-year imprisonment given to him by Punjab and the Haryana High Court.

While the victim's family has appealed to the Supreme Court to enhance the three years of imprisonment.
The case dates back to a road rage case of December 27, 1988 when Sidhu's vehicle had allegedly hit a 65-year-oldperson.
Sidhu and his co-accusedwere initially tried for murder but a trial court later acquitted Sidhu in September 1999.
