<p>In a blow to Congress leader and Punjab minister&nbsp;Navjot Singh Sidhu, the Punjab government has sought his conviction in the 1988 road rage case.</p>

<p>The lawyer appearing for the Punjab government told the apex court that Sidhu's denial of his involvement in the case was false.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The state government has appealed the Supreme Court to uphold the earlier 3-year imprisonment given to him by Punjab and the Haryana High Court.&nbsp;</p>

<p>While the victim's family has appealed to the Supreme Court to enhance the three years of imprisonment.</p>

<p>The case dates back to a road rage case of December 27, 1988 when Sidhu's vehicle had allegedly hit a 65-year-old&nbsp;person.</p>

<p>Sidhu and his co-accused&nbsp;were initially tried for murder but a trial court later acquitted Sidhu in September 1999.</p>

<p>Sidhu was granted bail by the Supreme Court in 2007.</p>
