India, US hold key meeting on critical and emerging technologies
US NSA Jake Sullivan meets PM Modi, Jaishankar
Indian National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval and US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan led the second session of the India-US initiative on Critical and Emerging Technology (iCET) in New Delhi on Monday (June 17).
The iCET, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Joe Biden during the Quad summit in Tokyo on May 24, 2022, aims to deepen strategic cooperation in sectors like space, AI, semiconductors, advanced telecommunications, biotechnology, clean energy andquantum technology.
Both sides underscored their "commitment to orienting our cooperation around breakthrough achievements in priority critical and emerging technology areas, by focusing our efforts on co-production, co-development, and research and development (R&D) opportunities."
This second iCET meeting, being held over June 17 and 18, builds on the progress made since the first session in January 2023 in the United States, a crucial step forward in the strategic collaboration between the two countries.
Prime Minister Modi also met with Sullivan and expressed India's commitment to strengthening ties with the US for "global good".

Sullivan’s visit to New Delhi on June 17 and 18 marks the first trip by a senior Biden administration official to India since Modi's re-election. Just days prior, Modi held a meeting with US President Joe Biden at the G7 Summit in Italy.
Defence talks, IMEC
Earlier in the day, Sullivan, who isaccompanied by a high-level delegation of senior US officials and industry leaders, had extensive talks with Ajit Doval on bilateral defence ties and regional security situation.

Discussions during Sullivan’s visit also covered the proposed India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC).

Sullivan also met with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar."Delighted to welcome US NSA Jake Sullivan to New Delhi today morning. A comprehensive discussion on a broad range of bilateral, regional and global issues," Jaishankar wrote on X.
