India: JMM leader Hemant Soren takes oath as chief minister of Jharkhand state

Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) Hemant Soren was sworn in as the chief minister of Jharkhand on Thursday (Jul 4) evening after Governor CP Radhakrishnan invited him to form the government. Champai Soren had tendered his resignation as chief minister on Wednesday.
After taking the oath, Soren said, "From 2019, the present 'Mahagathbandan' govt has done all the work as per the interest of the people here. During the political ups and downs, Champai Soren took forward those initiatives, because I was in jail...because of the court's order, I could come out."
While speaking on the oath ceremony, Hemant's wife and JMM leader, Kalpana Soren, said: "It is a blessing from people and our party workers. Following the High Court's decision, Hemant Soren is once again Jharkhand CM. Now, he will work even more for the people of Jharkhand as this time we have less time."

Soren was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in January on charges related to an alleged land scam and money laundering. Ahead of his arrest, Soren resigned as chief minister.
The court had acknowledged that there were "reasons to believe that he was not guilty of the offence" of money laundering related to a plot of land in Ranchi.
However, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)described the replacement of Champai Soren as the lust for power of the oppositionINDIA bloc leaders.
