Mark Ruffalo is grabbing headlines for all the wrong reasons as a war of words has intensified between the Marvel actor and Paramount. This is after the studio accused the Hollywood star of recent criticism of the Ellison family of invoking antisemitic tropes. What led to the Mark Ruffalo and Paramount firing at each other? Let's delve in it to know about the controversy.

Mark Ruffalo-Paramount Feud Escalates After Actor Rejects ‘Antisemitic’ Label

Paramount issued a statement condemning actor Mark Ruffalo's social media criticism of its pending merger with Warner Bros. Discovery. The studio stated that Ruffalo invoked antisemitic tropes by linking Oracle's technology ties with Israel to the corporate transaction, calling his rhetoric "a bridge too far". Ruffalo slammed the accusation as dishonest.

Ruffalo shared a clip targeting Oracle and board member Safra Catz over military technology contracts, criticising Larry and David Ellison's involvement in the Paramount-Warner Bros. deal. In the clip, he posted about Paramount board member Safra Catz, outlining “really profoundly scary technologies” that Oracle used to help the Israeli military after the October 7 terror attack.

Ruffalo likened the elder Ellison to a “classic oligarch” and warned of the consequences if Paramount and Warner Bros. are allowed to merge. The studio argued that applying terms like "genocide" and "apartheid" to a business merger injects irrelevant bias and cheapens real suffering. Ruffalo fired back, stating his political objections to corporate executives or state contracts do not equal hostility toward Jewish people.

The clash comes as Paramount pursues its proposed $111 billion acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery, a deal that has already generated significant debate in Hollywood and beyond. Critics have raised concerns about media consolidation, while Paramount has argued that the transaction would create a stronger competitor in the entertainment industry.

Mark Rufallo's statement about antisemitic

Taking to his X profile, Mark Rufallo wrote, “The accusation that I am antisemitic is appalling and fundamentally dishonest." “Criticising the actions of the Israeli prime minister, a military technology contract, or the executives who supply it is not the same as criticising Jewish people. This critical and necessary dialogue is then dishonestly framed as being anti-Israel."

“To be clear, my views come from my own political convictions and should never be interpreted as hostility toward Jewish people, for whom I have deep love and respect. Everything I know about acting, activism, and humanism has been profoundly shaped by the Jewish friends, colleagues, and loved ones who have been integral and family throughout every point of my life”, he further said.

The dispute has consequently developed into more than a disagreement over the proposed merger. It has become a broader argument over where criticism of Israel, Israeli policy and businesses connected to Israel crosses into antisemitism, with Ruffalo and Paramount taking sharply opposing positions.
