Boney Kapoor's consortium wins bid to develop Noida Film City; outbids Akshay Kumar

Akshay Kumar and Boney Kapoor

A consortium led by renowned film producer Boney Kapoor has outbid competitors, including actor Akshay Kumar and producer Bhushan Kumar, to build the highly anticipated Noida Film City. The project, spread across 230 acres alongside the Yamuna Expressway, is set to feature a film university, a cinema museum, and a helipad, among other state-of-the-art facilities. The location is conveniently situated just 6 km from the upcoming Noida International Airport.

According to a report by the Times of India, the competitive bids were presented in June by Super Cassettes Industries Private Limited (T-Series), Supersonic Technobuild Private Limited (comprising Dinesh Vijan's Maddock Films and Akshay Kumar's Cape of Good Films LLP), Bayview Projects LLP (backed by Boney Kapoor, real estate company Bhutani Group, and Noida Cyber Park), and 4 Lions Films Private Limited (supported by filmmaker KC Bokadia and others). The bids were part of a greenfield project envisioned by the Uttar Pradesh government, aiming to bolster the state's film and entertainment infrastructure.

Bayview Projects LLP emerged victorious by offering the highest revenue share to the state government, securing its position as the project's developer. The bid process, initiated on September 30, 2023, had a submission deadline of January 5, 2024. The June presentations marked the third attempt to attract investors for the project after two previous attempts were unsuccessful.

The project will be developed under a public-private partnership (PPP) model. Bayview Projects LLP is set to sign a concession agreement with the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority in June, after which they will take possession of the land. The consortium will have six months from the signing of the agreement to commence construction.

About Noida Film City

The Noida Film City is a visionary project championed by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Spanning over 1,000 acres in its entirety, the first phase will cover 230 acres along the Yamuna Expressway, specifically located in Sector 21 of the Yamuna Expressway Authority.

Out of the 230 acres, 155 acres will be dedicated to the core film industry, while 75 acres will be earmarked for commercial development. The film city aims to be a global hub for the film industry, featuring a cinema museum, a film university, and a helipad, alongside other luxury amenities.

This ambitious project is expected to transform the region into a bustling centre for film production and related activities, significantly contributing to the state's economy and cultural landscape.
