US police arrest woman for selling newborn baby on Facebook for just $150

A woman was arrested by the Texas police after she was accused of trying to sell her newborn baby on social media platform Facebook for only $150.

The 21-year-old Juniper Bryson allegedly posted about the baby in September in an online group entitled 'Birth Mothers Looking for Adoptive Parent(s)'.

Bryson, who has been living in Houston, said that she was willing to travel to adopt the baby.

The woman allegedly reached out to a family member to ensure that the child was taken by them and not placed into foster care and further noted that the baby was drug-positive.

"She needs someone there during labour and to take the baby boy home. She doesn't want him going into foster care," read the charging documents.

However, Bryson allegedly asked for payment while writing, "It's not even like that, just enough to move into an apartment so I can work a job and get (my daughter) back, or a cheap down payment, or any car to get to different places to DoorDash. Nothing crazy at all."

Woman reaches out to families to sell her newborn

Bryson wrote to at least seven people and appealed to them to adopt her newborn. Many of the responses came from those who were either struggling to get pregnant or were same-sex couples.

Some of these couples were willing to drive through the night to pick up the infant. However, when they were on their way, Bryson asked for money.

"Juniper sent him a picture of the food she was trying to order, and he sent her money, a total of $25 via Apple Pay to complete the food delivery. (The prospective parent) stated that 3.5 hours into their trip to Houston, she asked them to send her $150," stated charging documents.

Bryson then blocked the cellphone number of the prospective parents but later unblocked them to state, "If the baby wasn't worth $200 to them, then screw all."

Who adopted the baby?

Local woman Wendy Williams, who was living in Houston, decided to adopt the baby and even sent Bryson an Uber when she was in labour for her to reach the hospital.

The baby was born on September 24, and Williams remained with Bryson during her eight hours. She also chose the name of the baby and later adopted her.

"I felt a real bond between a mom and a baby. I felt a connection as if he were biologically mine," said Williams, while speaking to KTRK.
