Nine injured in acid attack in Germany's Bochum, attacker arrested

At least nine people were injured in an acid attack at a cafe in Germany'sBochum, according to media reports early Monday (July 1). A man entered the cafe at around 3.25 pm local time Sunday and poured an acidic liquidover a guest sitting at a table in the outdoor area, the police said.

The victim was seriously injured, the police added. A report by The Standard said that a waitress and a woman sitting next to the victim were also injured. Four police officers and two firefighters also sustained injuries as they came into contact with the liquid after being called to the scene.

Attacker arrested, probe launched

The attacker initially fled the scene but was arrested shortly afterwards. The police said that the motive of the attack was unclear, and an investigation had been launched. Efforts were also on to identify the substance used in the attack.

A report by ASB Zeitung, meanwhile, said the attacker's identity was not revealed, the crime scene was secured, and investigators were securing traces.
