In a tragic incident, a Houston radio tower broke after a helicopter crashed into it on Sunday night (Oct 20) and killed four people on board, which included a child.
The crash of the privately owned R44 helicopter happened just before 8 p.m. (local time) in the Second Ward of Houston, after which a huge blaze spread across 600 feet on the ground.
The police have not yet released the identities of the victims; however, it was confirmed that no one on the ground suffered injuries.
The helicopter “was a private touring helicopter,” said Houston City Council member Mario Castilloon X.
Houston Mayor John Whitmire said that the firefighters reached the site minutes after the crash.

“This is a tragic event tonight, it’s a tragic loss of life,” reacted Whitmire.
According to the officials, the helicopter took off from Ellington Field, which was 15 minutes away from the crash site.
Whitmire said that it was a “terrible accident scene” and had multiple fatalities and had also led to the destruction of the tower and helicopter.
“It is surrounded by residences and that’s where we were very fortunate — that it didn’t topple in one direction or another,” said Whitmire.
Fire Chief Thomas Muñoz confirmed that the large area of grass was set ablaze, however, no nearby residences were damaged.
“The helicopter that crashed in Second Ward was not an HPD helicopter, it was a private touring helicopter,” said Houston City Councilmember Mario Castillo on X.
Houston police Lt. Jonathan French on Monday said that thankfully no one on the ground suffered injuries.

"We want to keep the families and our victimsin mind right now. This is a horrible tragedy. This could have been much worse," he said.
Officials investigate helicopter crash
The National Transportation Safety Board, the Federal Aviation Administration and local officials are investigating the crash of the Robinson R44 II helicopter.
The National Transportation Safety Board said that, as per the preliminary information, it was operating as an air tour flight and crashed into a radio tower “under unknown circumstances".
