Golan Heights rocket attack: Israeli PM Netanyahu says his country won't stay silent

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Saturday (Jul27) that his countrywon't stay silent after arocket attack killed 12people, including children, at a football pitch in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights. Israel blamed Hezbollah for the attack and vowed to respond against theIran-backed Lebanese group. Hezbollah denied any responsibility (for the strike).
Addressing Israeli citizens, Prime Minister Netanyahu said, "I was shocked to see the horrific photos in the wake of Hezbollah's murderous attack in Majdal Shams. Among those who were murdered are young children who were playing soccer, and others. All of our hearts are broken over these sights."
"We embrace the families and the entire Druze community in its difficult hour, which is also our difficult hour," he said, adding, "I can say that the State of Israel will not let this pass in silence. We will not overlook this."

The rocket strucka football pitch in the Druze village of Majdal Shams in the Golan Heights.The Israeli ambulance service said 13 more people were wounded by the attack at the pitch which was filled at the time with children and teenagers.
Footage posted on social media showed the moment the rocket hit. An air raid siren can be heard, followed by a big explosion and images of smoke rising.
Speaking to the news agency Reuters, a witness said people were playing at the pitch and ran to a shelter as they heard sirens. "...it may take them like 15 seconds (to reach the shelter). But they couldn't reach the shelter because the rocket hit the site between the ground and the shelter," the witness added.

This was the deadliest strikein Israel or Israeli-annexed territory since the start of the conflict in Gaza.
In a statement, Hezbollah said,"The Islamic Resistance has absolutely nothing to do with the incident, and categorically denies all false allegations in this regard."
The Israeli military saidit "will prepare a response" against Hezbollah.
'A horrific attack'
The United States (US), which has beenleading diplomatic efforts aimed at de-escalating the conflict across the Lebanese-Israeli border, condemned Saturday's strike by calling it a horrific attack.
The US said its support forIsrael's security was "iron-clad and unwavering against allIranian-backed terrorist groups, including Lebanese Hezbollah."
A White House spokesperson said that Washingtoncontinues to support efforts to end these terrible attacks along the Blue Line (the frontier between Lebanon and Israel), which must be a top priority.
