China always transparent about coronavirus, says President Xi during World Health Assembly video conference
China supports inquiry 'after the pandemic has been brought under control,' President Xi added
UN chief Antonio Guterres said today that different countries have followed different, sometimes contradictory strategies on coronavirus and all are paying a heavy price during the virtual World Health Assembly annual meeting today.
"The planet is paying a heavy price for countries ignoring the recommendations of the World Health Organization to fight the coronavirus pandemic," the WHO chief said.
President Xi who attended the video conference said China has always been "transparent about coronavirus". The Chinese president said his country will provide $2 billion in global coronavirus aid over two years.
The Chinese president added that his county would make coronavirus vaccine a "global public good".
"China supports an inquiry after the pandemic has been brought under control," President Xi added.
The annual conference began amid clashes between China and the United States over the pandemic with the Trump administration accusing China of not being transparent and President Trump accusing the WHO of "mismanaging" the crisis.
