Paris Saint Germain's Kylian Mbappe said that Lionel Messi deserves to win the Ballon d'Or this year despite Barcelona's exit from the UEFA Champions League semi-final.
On being asked about who will win the Ballon d'Or this year, Kylian Mbappe said, "(Lionel) Messi, despite the elimination, it does not change anything. He is the number one. He has shown he was the best player this year.
"The year will take us up to December but I'm not worried about him, he is going to play until December," he added.
Mbappe made history on Sunday by becoming the first player to named both player of the year and young player of the year at the prestigious Trophees UNFP (French Professional Footballers Association) awards ceremony in Paris.
The French striker has also cast doubts on his intentions for next season as he said he wanted "more responsibility" in the future either at PSG or "somewhere else".
