India vs England: Rishabh Pant makes World Cup debut

Rishabh Pant

Young wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant has made his World Cup playing against England on Sunday at Edgbaston.

Pant, who flew in to join the squad two weeks ago as a replacement for Shikhar Dhawan after the opener fractured his hand, has replaced Vijay Shankar.

Vijay Shankar has a little niggle.

Pant is expected to bat at number four in place of all-rounder Vijay Shankar, who failed to nail down the spot over three World Cup outings.

In the match, England skipper Eoin Morgan won the toss and opted to bat first.

The pre-tournament favourites England need to win their last two group matches against India and New Zealand to qualify for the semi-finals and if they lose then they will have to rely on other results.

England received a boost with Jason Roy returning from a hamstring injury and paceman Liam Plunkett came into the side for Moeen Ali.
