Two Ahmadiyya community members shot dead in Pakistan

Two men in Pakistan belonging to theAhmadiyya community were shot dead on Saturday (June 8) by a teenager in theMandi Bahauddin district. Citing a community spokesperson, a report by Dawn said that the killings took placein the same locality within a difference of 20 minutes. The victimsaged 64 and 30 died on the spot after being shot. The attack was carried out by a19-year-oldstudent of a religious seminary. He was immediately arrested after the locals alerted the police about the incident.
What led to the killings
The spokesperson from theAhmadiyya community said that a hate campaign had been launched for the last few weeks ahead of Eidul Azha in a bid to stop their community from observing the occasion.
Speaking to Dawn,Mandi Bahauddin District Police Officer (DPO) Ahmad Mohyyuddin said that the police recovered a pistol from the attacker who confessed to killing the two men of theAhmadiyya community.
Mohyyuddin said the 19-year-old claimed that he had listened to different speeches against the minority community on social media platforms which made him carry out the killings.

The attacker bought the pistol as he wanted to kill every Ahmadi,Mohyyuddin added.
The police officer further said that a casewas registered against the suspect under terrorism charges, and cops would also look into the possible involvement of other people in the killings.
TheMandi Bahauddin DPO was instructed by PunjabIGP Dr Usman Anwar to form a special team to investigate the case.
